ASHEVILLE — While four different health systems made their cases for new hospital beds on Aug. 19, one company was top of mind for most attending: HCA Healthcare.

UNC Health purchased Westgate Shopping Center for $19.5 million in early July. Though it has plans to redevelop the site into a hospital, "nothing will change at that location for now," a UNC Health spokesperson told the Citizen Times on July 8.
The public attended an Aug. 19 hearing on the four projects proposed for the 92 acute care beds in the Buncombe/Clay/Graham/Madison/Yancey care bed service area.
