BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team put together a determined performance against undefeated Lees-McRae but ultimately came up short in a 2-1 defeat at Parks Field on Wednesday afternoon. Despite facing one of the top teams in Conference Carolinas, the Tornado played with grit and created several dangerous moments for the Bobcats defense.
Game recap
Lees-McRae opened the scoring just two minutes in, but King wasted no time responding. In the sixth minute, Harrison Reynolds netted the equalizer off an assist from Calvin Kron, electrifying the home crowd. The teams battled back and forth for much of the contest, with both defenses holding firm. The Bobcats finally broke through in the 84th minute with Rui Cardoso's go-ahead goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
King finished with five shots, four on target, and three saves from goalkeeper Daniel Cavanaugh. The Tornado defense weathered 16 shots from Lees-McRae, with only five going on goal.
The Tornado showed plenty of fight against a nationally ranked opponent and will look to carry that competitive spirit into their next contest.
King heads on the road for a Conference Carolinas matchup at Belmont Abbey on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 5:30 p.m.
