Spartanburg, S.C. – The King University cross country team went to the Converse Kick-Off Invitational, where they competed against some of the best teams in the country. The team was able to use this race as a great test of how they will compete against other schools in the conference and region.
Men's team
Mario Ruda Puertas led the way again for King with an impressive time of 25:48.60, finishing in 31st place. He started the race at the front of the pack with some of the nation's top athletes for the first kilometer. He then ran the rest of the race as a tempo run and finished hard over the final two kilometers.
Cole Johnson was the second Tornado athlete to cross the finish line with a time of 27:17.6 in 93rd place. Joshua Hathaway was the third athlete for King, finishing 130th.
Braydon Muhly and Spencer Utsey worked together, finishing fourth and fifth for King with times of 29:25.1 and 29:34.20, respectively.
Women's team
The women's team was led by Lexie LaDuc, who had a strong race, finishing in a time of 25:05.3 for 61st place.
Kailee-Ann Conner came in second for King with a time of 26:14.50, finishing in 81st place.
Kaelena Ahrens finished third for King and 95th with a time of 27:27.90. Ginger Rodda finished 111th with a time of 29:55.60, and Zahra Stewart finished in 116th place with a time of 31:14.70.
King will prepare for one of their biggest races of the season at the Paul Short Invitational on October 2nd.
