On Tuesday, North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson visited McDowell County to announce grants for 16 projects in western North Carolina. The grants are for projects designed to improve waste reduction infrastructure and debris management through the Helene Recovery Recycling Infrastructure (HRRI) grant program. The announcement was made Tuesday morning at McDowell County’s Greenlee Convenience Center. Commission Chairman Tony Brown, Commission Vice Chairman Lynn Greene and County Manager Ashley Wooten were there to meet with DEQ Secretary Wilson. They were joined by recipients from other western North Carolina counties.
