A petition with over 150 signatures is calling for Salem College to change the name of Bitting Residence Hall because of its namesake’s ties to white supremacy and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
A female stingray named Charlotte at a North Carolina aquarium is pregnant, even though there are no males in her tank. Experts believe Charlotte's pregnancy is the result of parthenogenesis, a rare form of asexual reproduction observed in some animals. Initially, some speculated that a shark was the father due to Charlotte's shark bites, which is a sign of mating, but scientists debunked this idea. Charlotte's pregnancy is considered remarkable, as she is the only known case of her species to become pregnant through parthenogenesis. "We don’t know why it happens. Just that it’s kind of this really neat phenomenon that they seem to be able to do," said Kady Lyons, a research scientist at Georgia Aquarium. She is expected to give birth to three or four pups.
