The past two seasons for the McDowell Lady Titans have been very intriguing to watch on the hardwood. What started as a total rebuild for this proud girls program and third-year head coach Zack McCartha turned into increased confidence and production last year. And as we get ready to begin a new season, there is a sense of optimism about the program that we haven’t seen in a while. A sense that this group could be ready to take the next step toward being a conference championship contender.
McDowell Lady Titans guard Kensly Stewart goes up for a lay-up during a game last season. Stewart was the leading scorer a season ago (10.9 ppg) for a McDowell squad that finished 16-10. Stewart was also an All-MAC and All-District second team selection.
Junior guard Sage Young returns for her third season on the McDowell Lady Titans varsity roster. Young (7.9 ppg) was a second team all-conference and all-district selection.
