A young family strolled down the path leading to Andrews Geyser. The landmark near Old Fort had been restored and dedication ceremonies were scheduled for May 16 as part of the bicentennial celebration in McDowell County.

These were the winners in 4-H Share the Fund talent contest. They were (from left) Robin Crowder (piano and singing), Angela Ellis and Teresa Ellis (piano duet) and Carol Anne Wacaster (tap dance). They were able to participate in the District 4-H Activity Day and to audition for performing at Carowinds the next summer.

Old Fort Mayor Jack Lytle (second from right) presented an American flag to Old Fort Elementary Principal Odell Parker. The presentation was made on behalf of the American Legion Post 56. The top spellers from McDowell County’s junior high and elementary schools squared off for their annual spelling bee and these three students were the top spellers.
