In September 2024, Alyssa Hughes (center) and her husband Matthew Hughes, left, of Barefoot Baby clothing business, announced the start of the Front Porch Project. They were joined by Marion Business Association Director Freddie Killough (right) when they made this announcement.
Since announcing this project, Barefoot Baby Foundation has lined up some local partnerships to make these front porches happen:
Nancy Spencer and Spencer's Hardware. Spencer was on a committee reading applications and selecting winners. Spencer's Hardware is donating some hardware for the project.
Chad Hunter, owner of Hunter Construction. Hunter was on the committee to go through applications and choose the winners. Hunter did site visits on homes to determine how a new porch would be built and what the cost would be. Hunter also created materials lists for each porch. Hunter Construction was hired to build the porches.
Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse of Marion is donating the lumber needed for the project.
Here is a list of what is happening at the McDowell County Public Library in April.
