The Buffalo Bills host the Seattle Seahawks at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bills Stadium. Here's what you need to know to get ready for the game.
3 key matchups to watch for Seahawks vs. Bills
Here are three matchups to watch when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Bills on Sunday.
D.K. Metcalf vs. Tre’Davious White. Metcalf is 6-3, 229 and runs a 4.33-second 40. White is 5-11, 192 and runs 4.47. Metcalf abused Niners 5-11 CB Emmanuel Mosley last week. Metcalf went against him on 24 of 39 routes and caught seven passes for 120 yards and two TDs. In Week 2, Metcalf beat Stephon Gilmore for a 54-yard touchdown. The Pats played man coverage vs. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and he beat them for five TD passes. Don’t expect the Bills to play man across the board, but history suggests White will follow Metcalf around. The other option is to let White follow Tyler Lockett around and then bracket Metcalf with a safety over the top.
Bills place linebacker Matt Milano on injured reserve, activate Del'Shawn Phillips
The Bills have placed linebacker Matt Milano on injured reserve because of a pectoral injury that limited him in the last two games and was going to keep him out of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Milano was originally injured against the Raiders and considered week-to-week. He missed two games and then was on a pitch count, playing 19 snaps against the Jets and 15 against the Patriots.
Column: Bills’ front four unlikely to do enough to stop Russell Wilson
One look at the matchup and the only response that makes even marginal sense is a shake of the head.
No way is the Buffalo Bills’ defense up to the challenge of preventing Russell Wilson from playing as the NFL MVP he has been through the Seattle Seahawks’ 6-1 start.
The Buffalo Bills’ offense has made a big leap in efficiency on third downs this season. It’s important the Bills keep it going in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks in Orchard Park.
From Seahawks to Bills, Quinton Jefferson and family reunite as 'Party of 6'
Quinton Jefferson hurried home from practice one night in September to build a bed and ready a hot meal for his travel-weary wife and kids before their arrival at his apartment in downtown Buffalo.
The Bills’ new defensive tackle last hugged his family in July, when he left his house in the Pacific Northwest for training camp in Orchard Park. He planned that they’d spend football season in Seattle, where in his four years with the Seahawks, they’d been embraced by the community.
Inside the Bills: Midseason report card shows progress on offense, regression on defense
Eight games is not a small sample size in the NFL.
With half the season over, it was interesting to hear Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott say this week that his team is still in the process of forming its identity.
One-on-One Coverage: Bills special teams coordinator Heath Farwell on time with Seahawks, Pete Carroll
Heath Farwell can’t ignore the strangeness of it all.
“Just putting on the tape and seeing the Seahawks this week is different,” the Buffalo Bills’ special teams coordinator said while getting ready for Sunday’s game at Bills Stadium.
Scouting Report: Seahawks give up passing yards by the boatload
When the Bills pass: Josh Allen hasn’t had an easy go of it this year. The Bills have faced just one team that ranks in the bottom five of pass defense – the New York Jets. In two games against the Jets, Allen has completed more than 70% of his passes, averaged nearly 310 yards and has a passer rating of 97.5. The Seahawks have given up yards through the air all season, ranking last in the league, allowing 358.7 yards per game. Part of that can be attributed to the Seahawks scoring a lot themselves, but it doesn’t entirely explain why quarterbacks have a passer rating of 93.1 against them. Allen will have to take care of the football – Seattle has at least one interception in all seven of its games – but there should be opportunities for the Bills’ quarterback to make plays in the passing game. EDGE: Bills.
When the Bills run: Zack Moss and Devin Singletary combined for 167 yards on 28 carries last week – the kind of production that will make life that much easier for Allen and the passing game. The Bills’ top two running backs are the only two who are healthy – both Taiwan Jones (hamstring) and T.J. Yeldon (back) have been ruled out. The Seahawks’ run defense (and pass defense, too) will get a huge boost with the return of safety Jamal Adams, who was acquired in a trade with the Jets before the season. The Seahawks’ run defense ranks ninth in the NFL, allowing 102.1 points per game. EDGE: Seahawks.
X's and O's: Seahawks finally please analytics crowd by letting Russ cook
The biggest second-guess in the history of the Seattle Seahawks franchise is they should have run the ball instead of passed on the goal line in the Super Bowl against New England in 2015.
The past several years, the predominant second-guess among the analytics community – and a portion of Seattle fans – is the Seahawks haven’t passed enough to take advantage of the talent of quarterback Russell Wilson.
