The Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions for the Thursday Night Football season opener, and we’ve picked our favorite Chiefs vs. Lions player props for Week 1 of TNF.

Best Chiefs vs. Lions player props for Week 1 Thursday Night Football

The Chiefs will begin their Super Bowl championship defense against a young and impressive Lions team that had the second-best record against the spread in 2022. Will the experience of the Chiefs or the youthful energy of the Lions prevail? Here are our favorite Chiefs vs. Lions player props for TNF.

Patrick Mahomes props: Over 305.5 passing yards on TNF (-114 or better)

Mahomes has averaged 308.4 passing yards in Week 1 games and has gone over the total on three of five occasions. He also has 18 total touchdowns to zero interceptions, which shows his reliability and consistency.

The Lions gave up the third-most passing yards in the league last year and did not make significant improvements to the secondary. Mahomes proved he does not need all-pro wide receivers to thrive, but he may be without his most trusted pass-catcher: All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee in Tuesday's practice and Mahomes may have to make due without his favorite option for a while. 

Kansas City Chiefs player props: Isaiah Pacheco anytime touchdown (+110 or better)

Pacheco is the Chiefs’ lead back and impressed as a rookie. He was not a huge touchdown threat but scored in the 2022 season-opener and was tough to bring down in short-yardage situations.

The Chiefs are going to move the ball up and down the field. Whenever they get near the goal line, Pacheco will be a threat in both the passing and running game and should get several opportunities to score.

Jared Goff props: Over 275 passing yards (+140 or better)

Goff only went over 275 yards six times last season, but we think he’ll come out swinging Thursday. One major reason for that is that Kansas City superstar Chris Jones will likely miss the game, and Goff is excellent when he is not pressured.

The Chiefs are also going to force the Lions’ hand because of their offensive prowess, which will cause Goff to throw a ton of passes.

Detroit Lions player props: Jahmyr Gibbs over 31.5 receiving yards (-114 or better)

Lions coach Dan Campbell has remained adamant that the Lions will feature Gibbs heavily in his rookie season. He was gifted as a pass-catcher at Alabama and Georgia Tech and will likely see a heavy workload on all three downs.

Lions running backs combined for nearly 40 yards receiving per game a year ago, and Gibbs is a better receiver than all of the players who contributed to that average.
