US President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have declined sharply, particularly among those who voted for him in the 2024 presidential election, according to a new poll. A new poll from the Pew Research Center found that just three in ten Americans approve of Trump’s performance as president, while 68% disapprove. Confidence in Trump’s handling of key issues, including the economy, foreign policy and immigration, has fallen significantly since the beginning of his second term. Among those who voted for Trump in 2024, 67% now approve of his performance, down from 75% in July and 83% at the beginning of 2026. His approval rating has fallen particularly sharply among Hispanic and younger voters who supported him in 2024. Just 57% of Hispanic voters who backed Trump in 2024 now approve of his performance as president, a decline that could prove critical for Republicans in November’s midterm elections. Among Trump’s 2024 voters aged 19 to 34, just 49% now approve of his performance as president. Meanwhile, 69% of Americans say they have little confidence in Trump to separate his business interests from his presidential decision-making. The upcoming midterm elections are widely viewed as a referendum on Trump’s second term and will determine whether Republicans retain control of the House and Senate.
The mixed responses highlight the uncertainty that hangs over the midterms nearly six years after Trump tried to overturn his 2020 election loss to former President Joe Biden.
