Nick Reiner is seeking access to a trust worth more than $1.5 million to pay his legal fees while he awaits trial for the murder of his parents, Rob and Michelle Reiner. According to a California probate petition, the trust required that half of the funds be released when Nick turned 30 and the remainder at 35. Nick claims he received nothing when he turned 30 in 2023 and has been unable to obtain any trust funds since. The petition alleges trustee Paul Kanin has offered a "shifting series of excuses and justifications" for withholding the money, including concerns over Nick’s ability to manage the trust. The petition argues that Kanin is wrongly requiring Nick to meet additional conditions before releasing the funds. Attorney Alan Jackson initially represented Nick but withdrew in January after family representatives stopped paying his legal fees. Jackson, who cited "circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick's control," said he would return if Nick gains access to the trust funds.
