MARION Rev. Jack D. Thomas, 89, of Marion, went to his heavenly home Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Yancey County, Oct. 18, 1926, he was the son of the late William Edison and Ethel Colbert Thomas. Rev. Thomas, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served proudly during World War II, was a dedicated minister, serving his Lord and congregations faithfully over the years. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, daddy and "Pop". In addition to his parents, Rev. Thomas was preceded in death by his sisters, Dessie Epley and Jean Ford. Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Faye Jones Thomas; his children, Connie Burnette (Richard), Penny Jackson (David), Eddie Thomas (Deb) and David Thomas (Kim); seven grandchildren, Renee Burroughs, Josh Burnette, Matthew Thomas, Jami Thomas, Nathan Jackson, Brett Grindstaff and Travis Foxx. Ten great-grandchildren, Jordan, Merideth, Seth, Skyler, Garrette, Ryleigh, Mattie, Carter, Lexi and Max also survive. A funeral service in honor of Rev. Thomas' life will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m., at West Court Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ross Lewis, Chaplain Richard Anderson and the Rev. Dale Cable officiating. Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted and appreciated but those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752.
