The life of a famous musician comes with its highs and lows, and for some, that includes run-ins with the law. It might surprise you, but some of your most beloved artists have been caught in possession of drugs. In March, 1976, David Bowie was arrested for possession of marijuana alongside fellow superstar Iggy Pop and Chi Wah Soo, a 20-year-old who Bowie had invited to party with him. Chi Wah Soo finally shared the story in 2019, after keeping it a secret for decades. On that night, the then 20-year-old had been in the front row of Bowie’s concert in New York. After the show, the rockstar invited her to a party, where they were busted by the police for smoking marijuana. They were arrested, but luckily did not face any serious charges. In 2012, Snoop Dogg was arrested in Norway for arriving in the country carrying eight grams of marijuana. The rapper was caught at the border by two sniffer-dogs on the way to a music festival that he was scheduled to perform at. Despite being held at the airport temporarily, Snoop did go on to perform at the Norwegian festival. However, the arrest resulted in him being banned from the country for 24 months. In 1980, Paul McCartney and his partner Linda, arrived in Japan for a tour with the band, Wings. When they landed, Paul’s luggage was searched by customs, and approximately 200 grams of cannabis were found. McCartney was detained at the airport and arrested on a smuggling charge. Thankfully, he was released after just nine days in jail, but the incident did result in the tour being cancelled.
