Lawrence Reel stands with his 1935 Plymouth Business Coupe. Reel fell in love with the '35's lines when he was home on leave from Vietnam, and saw one owned by longtime local collector Bill Wiseman. Reel found this gem in South Carolina in 2016 when he was searching for parts for another car.

Lawrence Reel's 1935 Plymouth sits in the sun. This is no trailer-queen; Reel drives the car on a regular basis.
The classic Plymouth 'sailing ship' hood ornament is a rare piece. Reel said they're scarce because the sails and bow that extend past the circular central part of the ornament tend to get broken off over the years.
Reel has long admired the '35's front-end styling.
Power for the coupe comes from a 1977 Dodge 360. The block was bored .030 over and features such goodies as a Competition cam, Edelbrock manifold and carb, and headers.
The interior features a tilt wheel and PT Cruiser seats. Reel said the car was comfortable even on an 11-hour drive to Biloxi, Miss., for a car show.
The classic lines of Lawrence Reel's '35 Plymouth are evident in this photo.
Note: The McDowell News is featuring a weekly series highlighting some of the county's custom and/or classic vehicles. Due to technical errors last week, some of the copies of the page featuring Lawrence Reel's '35 Plymouth were blurry. We're running the car again this week. If you'd like to see your car featured (for free, of course) contact Marty Queen at dqueen@mcdowellnews.com or 559-4053.
