MCDOWELL COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS CELEBRATES EXCEPTIONAL ATHLETES
The McDowell County Special Olympics was held on the morning of April 17 at McDowell High School's Titan Stadium.
More than 150 athletes from around McDowell County, ages 8 years and older, took part in the games. More than 100 volunteers, including high school students, staff and community members, assisted with the event.
The athletes had the opportunity to participate in two of three events, including running, softball or tennis ball throw and long jump. The event had sponsors from local businesses in McDowell County and surrounding areas, according to Amber McKinney, chair of McDowell High's Exceptional Children Department.
