Vatican's media consultant to participate in Marion event
Bookstore to host priest virtually

The "official chaplain" to comedian Stephen Colbert, who is also a media consultant to the Vatican, will participate in a hybrid conversation in Marion on Friday, May 29.
Bigfoot Books & Brews will host the Rev. Castello Vore in person in a conversation with the Rev. James Martin, who will be virtual, in a discussion about Martin's new memoir "Work in Progress" on Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m., according to a news release from Bigfoot Books & Brews.
Martin was the "official chaplain" to Colbert's previous show, "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central. He is also a media consultant to the Vatican, as appointed by Pope Francis, the release said. Martin will appear via videoconference from his home in New York City and will be interviewed by Vore, the current director of vocations of the Old Catholic Missionary Province of North America. Vore is also a spiritual director and leads an LGBT-inclusive Catholic community, Christ the Healer, where he lives outside of Charlotte, the release said.
"We're so excited to have Father Castello here in person to host the conversation with Father James Martin for us virtually," said Stephen Knight, co-owner of Bigfoot Books & Brews. "Father Martin's memoir will be a great centerpiece to this conversation, but coming on the heels of Stephen Colbert's last show in late night and Pope Leo's first encyclical on 'preserving the human person in the age of artificial intelligence,' which comes out May 25, this is going to be a rare opportunity to speak with and ask questions directly to one of the Roman Catholic Church's leading voices today."
Bigfoot Books & Brews is requesting that people to RSVP in advance so it can make arrangements for the event.
Martin is a Jesuit priest, editor at large of America magazine, consultor to the Vatican's Dicastery for Communication and author of "Learning to Pray," "Jesus: A Pilgrimage" and "The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything." Martin is a frequent commentator in the national and international media.
His latest work is "Work in Progress: Confessions of a Busboy, Dishwasher, Caddy, Usher, Factory Worker, Bank Teller, Corporate Tool, and Priest." The coming-of-age story is set in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s and is a lighthearted tale for readers who enjoy personal narratives, according to the news release.
Vore serves as the current director of vocations of the Old Catholic Missionary Province of North America and assists the bishop and the tribunal in recruiting, selecting, and vetting persons seeking ordination or incardination, the release said.
