Fourth Friday series of concerts starting up every month in downtown Marion

Starting May 22, Marion will have music and outdoor fun in downtown once a month.
The Marion Fourth Fridays event series will last from May to September. The concert and events will last from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the fourth Friday of the month. The concert will take place at the City Stage in downtown Marion, according to a news release from the Marion Business Association.
“This new event series invites the community to gather and kick off the weekend in downtown Marion,” reads the news release. “Each month will offer something a little different, from live music at City Stage on Main Street. There will be themed evenings, with food, drinks and plenty of ways to support local businesses.”
Kicking off the event series is Honeycutt & Company taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 22.
Fourth Fridays in Marion downtown event series will last from

"From the foothills of the Carolinas, where you find the best people and the best music, Honeycutt & Company draws from a rich history of music and influences of the mountains," reads the news release. "They bring a dynamic show featuring rich vocals, smooth tones and an emotional delivery, bringing you a selection of old and new music to deliver a pleasing sound."
People are encouraged to bring chairs to the concerts.
Food will be available from downtown restaurants, taprooms or breweries like Refinery 13, Mica Town Brewing, Artesana Ice Cream, Crabby Abby’s, After 5, Taylor Bros. Brewing, Keeper’s Cut Meadery and Factory 29. Food trucks will be available: Countryside BBQ, South Mountain Kettle Popcorn and Kona Ice.
Other Fourth Friday events will be held:
Friday, June 26 — JB & The 70s (’70s yacht rock and ’70s classic rock) with food trucks Mama T’s Rolling Snack Shack, Wicked Good Pretzels and The Scream ice cream.
Friday, July 24 — Chris Vita Band (Honkytonk country) with food trucks Spirit of America, South Mountain Kettle Pop Co. and Artesana.
Friday, Aug. 28 — Bigfoot Eve Block Party — an event the day before the WNC Bigfoot Festival.
Friday, Sept. 25 — Oktoberfest with Das Oompapas polka band with food trucks Lucky Dogs, Wicked Good Pretzels and Kona Ice.
Several of these firearms date back to — and were used in — the
American Civil War and Spanish American War eras and are considered
valuable historical artifacts that were donated by citizens for
public education and enjoyment.

Several firearms were stolen this week from the Historic Carson House in McDowell County, according to the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.
The guns reported stolen were:
■ Percussion rifle with a curly maple stock, Civil War era.
■ 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun manufactured by Russell Arms Co. in Belgium (approximately 37.5 inches in length with a 9-inch stock).
■ 16-gauge rifle dated 1862, missing the forward stock band and ramrod, with the initials "HB" carved into the side.
■ U.S. Army rifle manufactured in 1896 by Springfield Armory (Serial No. 24574), about 28.5 inches long with a 16-inch barrel.
■ 12-gauge single-barrel shot-gun from the 1800s, approximately 49 inches long.

Anyone with information regarding the location of the items is asked to contact Detective Derrick McGinnis at 828-652-2235, ext. 1235, during office hours. People can also call McDowell County Communications at 828-6524000 after office hours or submit an anonymous tip through the sheriff's office app, available for free download on both the Apple App and Google Play stores.
"Please help us recover these important pieces of history so they can be safely returned," reads the news release.
