NCIS: New York
CBS, 9 p.m. â– New Series
New York is the seventh spinoff in the franchise, (with the original NCIS itself coming from JAG), and while producers want to do something new with it, they're not forgetting what works. "How can we maintain the roots of the universe but take it to a different level?" asks series lead LL Cool J, reprising his role from NCIS: Los Angeles. He called in L.A. showrunner R. Scott Gemmill (The Pitt) to "help craft the foundation," he adds. "New York has a vibe and a whole different energy," the rapper says. "We wanted this show to present that to the world, and I think we accomplished it." Hanna returns to his hometown, where he partners with a roguish agent (Scott Caan, Hawaii Five-0). Together they help lead a new team tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world. The first episode, "Pilot," follows Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) as he returns to New York City following the death of his friend and Navy reservist Jack Halloway.

Murder at the Movies
TCM, beginning at 8 p.m.
Tonight's programming is curated by TCM host Alicia Malone with a theme based on her first novel, Murder at the Movies: A Movie Palace Mystery, a classic whodunit to be released today. The evening begins with René Clair's chilling 1945 murder mystery And Then There Were None, based on Agatha Christie's novel, in which a group of strangers trapped on an isolated island try to determine the identity of a ruthless killer who is methodically picking them off one by one before it's too late. In Murder She Said (1961), Margaret Rutherford takes the reins as the irrepressible Miss Marple, who witnesses a strangulation through a train window and takes the investigation into her own capable hands. The evening also includes 1933's The Kennel Murder Case (pictured), starring William Powell as suave, razor-sharp detective Philo Vance, and Alfred Hitchcock's psychological masterpiece Suspicion (1941), with Joan Fontaine playing a sheltered heiress who slowly comes to the terrifying realization that her charming new husband (Cary Grant) might just be a murderer.
