Nancy Plaster
September 26, 1945 - May 29, 2026
The world lost a beautiful person on May 29, 2026.... Nancy Landis Plaster, born September 26, 1945, passed away at her home in Black Mountain, NC, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her loving partner, Ellis Eldridge Johnson, Jr. (Dick); her two children, son, Jeffrey Winfield Parker (wife Kayla Parker) and daughter, Amy Landis Parker (partner Todd Cummiskey); her four grandchildren, Blaise
Winfield Parker, Maxwell Landis Parker, Lilian Mae Parker, and Zebulon Davis Parker; her sister, Joanne Landis Harvey, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Born Nancy Ellen Landis in Marion, NC, she was a majorette, homecoming queen, and a beautiful, smart, fun young woman. She was married in 1963 to E. W. Parker III and bore two children. She coached basketball and softball, and hauled her kids all around to sports and after-school activities in her big yellow Jeep Wagoneer that served as a non-stop urban taxi! Later in life, she remarried Wayland Plaster and moved to Hickory, NC, where she became a successful realtor with REMAX. It was in Hickory that she formed a 40-year-long life full of friendships, travel, and memories.
Nancy had a particularly close relationship with her sisters and nieces, so eventually seven of the Landis family ladies began taking an annual girls' trip each May to various locations to be together, play (lots of) cards, shop, cook, and reminisce. Her nieces adored her, not only because of her beauty and kindness, but also for her more lenient approach to their "coming of age" years (AKA FUN CHAPERONE!) Nancy had a passion for hummingbirds and bluebirds, and she created a thriving environment for nesting. She also grew an amazing rose garden and was an AVID Carolina Panthers fan.... even in the roughest of seasons.
On her last Mother's Day, Nancy had 30 family members around her for a sunny afternoon of BBQ, games, and photographs....a perfect day.
Nancy preferred no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree, grow a rose garden or give the birds a happy spot to visit in your yard. Another gesture she would love: donate to the Jimmy V Cancer Foundation in her name. She will continue to travel the world, and her ashes will be spread little by little in beautiful places.
