A McDowell man was pronounced dead Sunday after overturning his vehicle on Zion Hill Road.

According to Trooper Jason Metcalf of the NC Highway Patrol, Donald Seth Norton, 36, was traveling in the 300 block of Zion Hill Road Sunday afternoon when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road slamming into mailboxes and culverts before becoming airborne and overturning.

Norton was partially ejected from the vehicle, troopers said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. No other individuals were involved.

Witnesses told troopers Norton was driving erratically before the crash.

The cause of crash is still under investigation.
